Ravin’ Films Produces Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Tribute Films

Ravin’ Films recently produced film tributes to Miles Davis and Black Sabbath for the 21st Annual Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Ceremony.  The ceremony, held annually at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel in New York City, was later broadcast as a television special on VH1. The event and television special were produced by Tenth Planet Productions, with Joel Gallen producing and directing.

The film tributes were produced and directed by Bob Sarles and Christina Keating, and edited by Sarles. The short films include interviews, rare archival performance clips, and original animations by Ravin' Films collaborator Mikal Carter.

Bob Sarles also conducted on camera interviews with artists participating in the ceremony for the VH1 television special. Documentary cameraman Bob Richman (My Architect; Metallica: Some Kind of Monster) shot the interviews on film. Artists interviewed include Solomon Burke, Herbie Hancock, Jack DeJohnette, Elvis Costello, Robbie Robertston, members of Lynyrd Skynyrd, Metallica, and Blondie.

Ravin’ Films has produced tribute films for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremonies dating back to 1995. The films include tributes to Elvis Costello & The Attractions, Traffic, The O'Jays, Buddy Guy, Janis Joplin, Buffalo Springfield, Jefferson Airplane, Pete Seeger, Crosby Stills & Nash, King Records founder Syd Nathan, and famed disc jockey Tom Donahue.
